— YOUR PHYSICIAN —
Dr. Smitha Krishnan, MD
"Good medicine starts with actually knowing your patient."
My story spans two countries and several cities. I grew up in Chicago, spent my formative years in India for school and medical training, and returned to the US for my Internal Medicine residency at UPMC in Pittsburgh. After residency, I spent three years practicing outpatient primary care in Los Angeles before finding my home in the Pacific Northwest, joining Providence Swedish in 2021.
Throughout those years in traditional medicine, I kept encountering the same frustration. There was never enough time to truly care for people the way they deserved. Skona Health is my response to that. A practice built entirely around the patient-physician relationship, with the space and structure to do medicine the way it should be done.
My clinical focus is internal medicine, preventive care, chronic disease management, women’s hormonal treatment and obesity medicine. I am currently board certified in Internal medicine & certified in women’s health (MSCP). I believe obesity medicine is one of the most undertreated areas in primary care and my patients deserve a physician who has done the work to get it right. Outside the clinic, I am a swimmer, a mom of two, and someone who will talk to you about what is on your plate just as readily as what is in your chart. I am a dog mom and I have a loving golden retriever named Coco.
The name Skona comes from Swedish, meaning beautiful or lovely. It's a word that captures what we believe primary care should be: unhurried, personal, and genuinely good. Not just functional — beautiful in the way it fits your life.
